This weekend is going to be fun!  We got our tax return and we are going to accomplish many things with it.  It's a very exciting time.  We are starting an emergency fund, helping out my mother since she helps us out so much as well, and going shopping for essentials!  We are going to load up our cupboards with yummy healthy staples and we are going to start a container garden so this tax return can keep on giving throughout the rest of the season with some fresh vegetables and herbs that we hope to plant.  I definitely will be a beginner at this so here's hoping that I can get our container garden to thrive!  My husband has a bit more experience so I have confidence. 

There is a book that I cannot wait to get my hands on (ooh maybe this weekend!)called The Backyard Homestead
It's all about growing all the food you need in your own backyard.  There's also a bit of information on raising farm animals as well.  DH and I aren't quite sure how far we would like to take our homestead when the time comes... we are torn... but I'll blog about that another day.  In this book it basically says (I have a preview of the book on my iPhone Nook reader) to make a list of things you eat on an everyday basis... and that is what you should start with in your garden.  So here's our list that hopefully we'll be able to get started this weekend...
  • Zucchini
  • Summer squash
  • Bell peppers
  • Tomatoes
  • Basil
That's pretty much our list for now.  One thing I've learned in life is if you want to be successful at something... start out small.  So that's plan!  What's on your gardening list?
